Random musings and discussions around anything related to the 7th Sea 2nd Edition

I love idea generators!  Since I've recycled my old 7th Sea villains in my current witch hunter game, I need to come up with a new crop of villains for my next campaign.  So in the meantime, I thought I'd start compiling some nice tools for GMs to create villains and can use some help.

I'm thinking about two tools in particular.

First, a collection of villainous archetypes, including those from the swashbuckling adventure Heroes and Villains book.  This being an idea generator, I'm not really interested in stats.  I'm thinking a template like this:

Hi everbody!
I love the new 7th Sea edition. However, I have a small trouble with mechanics of convincing NPC to do something. Okey, let me bring an example:

Let's say there's an audiance with the king. A Hero is trying to convince the king, that the Count Giorgio killed one of his friends. The Count is a close friend to the king and it should be hard to convice the king that he did that. Let's say that a Hero saw him doing that.

With the Core Rulebook's release, we've finally got an official map for what Theah now looks like.  What does everyone think?

One interesting thing I noticed was that with the map having a scale (hooray!), it looks like non-Europe is quite a bit smaller than the real thing.  I wonder why they made that decision.

I'm also curious why Ussura is relatively small compared to real-world Russia.  Unless the "Cathay Steppes" are meant to be de-facto part of the nation.

I am quite disappointed by the Dracheneisen as written in the core book of the second edition: Basically removing something special and unique to 7th Sea 1st edition (in terms of how it is implemented in the setting) and replacing it by your average magical weapon. Also the Gothic value of Dracheneisen pieces of armour in 1st edition was awesome..

These are essentially the same skill. These skills are all just a form of getting someone to do or giving us something we want.

Brawn + Convince is same as Brawn + Intimidate

Panache + Convince is the same as Panache + Tempt

Wits + Convince is the same as Panache + Convince when haggling or bluffing

Hello folks!

I have been reading these forums for a few days but today I had this urge to create an account just because of a scene that's popped up into my mind.

I wanted to share it and ask for different points of view as how would you guys do it.

Let's see...

I was wondering what has been discussed (if anything) about adding non-sanctioned dueling schools. One thing that was nice about 1e was that you had Swordsman Schools that provided benefits but were not recognized by the Swordsman Guild. This helped allow characters to have an improved fighting style but not be officially recognized.

Alright.  Having an idea what I wanted to make, I went through and read a slight bit about the SCW, then skipped most everything else to the character creation section.  Then, step by step, made this character, not even looking at what advantages did, based off background name and description alone.  The only thing I have up in the air currently, is Virtue and Hubris.  I have two selections each, that could work for the character.  But here he is :)

I'm sorry but after reading this entire beta version, yes it is not completely in stone but I do not see it changing much before the final release in October, I find this system too simplified.  With it being so story-driven, why bother rolling dice.  Make it free-form like on of the dice-less systems.  If this system is trying to push a great heroic story for the players to enjoy, why bother disrupting that feeling with dice rolls?
