Nations in three words

I'm planning an Erebus Cross style whistle stop tour of Théah to introduce my group to Théah. I'd like a range of views of what the key aspects of each country are to make sure I get the key themes across to them. Try summing up each country's key themes in 3 (ish) words. For example: Eisen - Dracheneisen, horrors, war-torn.

Castille - Passion, Reason, Zorro!

I think my three for Castille would have to be: Inquisition, occupied, Los Vagos

But I totally get the passion thing.

That is for words and los Vagos does not tell someone new to the game anything since those are just random words to them. Zorro, V for Vendetta, and Guy Fawkes at least gives an idea of looks, methods, and goals. Zorro being the option that is only one word.

Knowing a little bit about the new Eisen, this really fits the mold now. It is a scary scary place.

A scary place that breeds scary people. :) EISENSTRONK!

What is Ussura like? (I'm new to 7th Sea and largely unfamiliar with the setting.)

Welcome, Ryan G.
In 7th Sea, Ussura is basically the Slavic peoples of pesudo-Russia. Kingdoms in the 7th Sea are inspired by real world 17th and 18th century kingdoms but are actually still uniquely different from real world analogies.

Thanks for the info! :) I gathered that the countries were analogues for real world locations, I just haven't heard people talk that much about Ussura. Conversations seem to mostly pop up around Montaigne, Castille, Vodacce, and now the Sarmatian Commonwealth (I'm assuming since it's the newbie in the group.) Looking forward to hearing all the in depth stories about these places once the Nations of Theah books drop! I'm particularly interested in Avalon.

Back when I played first edition, one of the players/GMs made the following statement about Ussura:

"Ussura is a great place to be from."

My Lithuanian girlfriend insists that you add "potatoes" to the list for The Sarmatian Commonwealth.

Hate to be the buzzkill, but the New World is a brand new place, potatoes may not even be in Theah yet (potatoes originate from South America and arrived in Europe in the 1500s, but didn't become widespread until the 1700s; most farmers and folks didn't really trust them at first. wink

Sorry to you Inish folks as well.

I mean, the same goes for corn, which originally got a lot of people sick because they didn't realize that the original varietes brought over from South America needed to be treated with lye.

This is 7th Sea: I have not once seen real world history get in the way of flavor, whether figurative, or in this case, literal. :)

That depends on how you define "corn." :-) I take it you're referring to maize, not other cereal grains. People ate "corn," but it was wheat or barley or such before the on-the-cob stuff showed up.

Now that we've had a glimpse of the updated nations and secret societies, would anyone like to change their words?

I used successfully following way:

Eisen of Grimm's Brothers.

Castille of Zorro's California

Avalon of Arthurian Court

Vodacce of Machiavellian Machinations

Montaigne of Three Musketeers

Giasone Vodocci

La Bucca: Criminals, Democracy, Ruins

Aragosta: Pirates, Deals, Brotherhood

Numa: Independence, Glory, Spirit

Jaragua: Rebuilding, Compromise, Freedom

Rahuri of the Atabean Sea: Tribal, Monsters, Invasive

Ben Woerner

I'd say the Rahuri have: Sea Monsters, Ancestors, and Tribal, but other than that I like your list. :)

Odd, I am sure those local savages who have not yet heard the Prophet's wisdom have a different take. I prefer to divid their reputation thusly;

ATC in Theah: Exploration, Entrepreneurial, Pioneers

ATC in the Atabean Sea: Slavers, Ruthless, Avarice

I'm tempted to go with 4 for ATC:

Peace, Truth, Love, Plenty

Why those four?

Because evil, opportunistic, and ubiquitious give it all away.

If I re-phrase it as -pax, -tru, -luv and -plen does that help?

Playing off your own use of their redefinition of "Freedom" and the Orwellian implications I suppose.
