The Wheel Virtue
Virtue, The Wheel

Hi,

First post, so please be gentle. I noticed that in the description of the 'Fortunate' Virtue under 'The Wheel' on page 157, the ruling says 'Virtue: Fortunate:
Activate your Virtue to delay an Opportunity or a Consequence by 1 Action.' My question is, how does this work exactly? Does it shift the time limit on a Consequence or Opportunity down by one? So, say, the GM says "There's a line of powder sizzling across the floor...it'll reach the Magazine on 2 raises." Would using this Virtue move that figure down to 1 raise? I'm pretty sure that's what it is, I just want to clarify it because one of my group has taken the Fortunate Virtue, and I want to be sure that I know how it works.

Thank you!

That is exactly how I read it.

You'd be correct, in that Fortunate essentially bumps the Opportunity or Consequence down one spot on the initiative order.

Mostly it's used to delay Consequences like the example you gave, thus giving the Hero and his allies more time to either prevent the Consequence from occuring or doing something to avoid/mitigate the Consequence's effects.

The bit about Opportunities is a bit odd, since those usually have to be activated, either by the Hero themselves as part of a Risk or a Dramatic Sequence, or by another Hero as part of an Action Sequence.  I suppose the Hero could opt to delay the effects of the Opportunity if it's one created or activated by a Villain.

I think the opportunity side of things is "there's a letter lying on the burning desk, you have the opportunity to spend a raise to retrieve it, but it is burnt by the fire once we reach 3 raises."
